The Ultimate Solution for Japan’s Mountains

ZENN CONCEPT
The ZENN series is designed in pursuit of the best possible solution for Japan’s modern mountain environments. For hikers who want to go farther with lighter gear, we reimagined the tent from the ground up—developing a design that offers true reliability in the Japanese mountains today.

ZENN 2 POLE SHELTER
The ZENN 2 POLE SHELTER is a lightweight, non-freestanding shelter for solo hikers. It can be pitched with just two trekking poles and offers excellent protection against wind and rain. By minimizing seams and components, we kept the trail weight down to just 410g—light enough for serious mountain travel, strong enough for demanding mountain conditions.
Easy to Set Up, Built to Withstand the Elements

WIND RESISTANT
Engineered to withstand harsh weather, the ZENN 2 POLE SHELTER was developed with a focus on wind resistance. To simulate real-world alpine conditions, we conducted wind tunnel tests where the shelter maintained its shape and stability even in winds up to 20 m/s. The streamlined pattern minimizes exposed seams and deflects wind effectively, while the reinforced triangular top panel adds rigidity across the entire shelter.

EASY SET UP
Setup is quick and intuitive—just two trekking poles (105–125cm) and six stakes are all you need. The simple diamond-shaped layout makes pitching straightforward even for solo hikers. Longer guylines are included to ensure secure setup on hard or rocky terrain. All guy points and peg loops feature reflective materials for better visibility in low light or night conditions.

MAIN FABRIC
The canopy is made from 20D ripstop nylon with silicone and PU coatings. All seams are fully taped for a waterproof rating of 2,000mm. A waterproof zipper at the main entrance keeps out wind and rain.

BATHTUB FLOOR DESIGN
A built-in frame at the foot lifts the fabric to create useful space for storing your pack or shoes. The 10cm-high bathtub floor protects against groundwater and wind, keeping the inside stable and dry even on uneven terrain.
Designed for Real Comfort

LIVING AREA
The ZENN 2 POLE SHELTER balances minimal weight with maximum comfort. Its diamond-shaped floor creates extra space around the upper body for a less confined sleeping experience. A generous peak height at the center lets you sit up, change clothes, and get ready with ease.

OPTIMIZED VENTILATION
A large, adjustable vent at the top boosts airflow. The entrance also features a mesh panel for visibility and ventilation. You can open or close both depending on the weather—helping reduce condensation and keeping fresh air moving through the shelter.

COMPRESSION BAG
The included stuff sack has compression straps, so the shelter packs down small—just 27×15×10cm. It fits easily into your pack and gives you more freedom to organize your gear the way you like.

DESIGNER'S VOICE
We started the design process with one goal in mind: to make sure you can sleep soundly in the mountains. At the same time, we pushed for even more weight savings. First, we built a 1:5 scale model to check overall balance and volume, then moved on to full-size prototypes. We tested pyramid shapes, floorless designs, and more—We continued refining the concept through trial and error. But in the end, we chose a 2 pole setup for its easy pitch and excellent wind resistance. Because in Japan’s mountains, if it doesn’t hold up to wind and rain, it just won’t cut it.
During field testing, we ran into one big issue: on uneven terrain like rocky ridgelines, it was hard to get enough tension in the fabric. With shelters like this, if you can’t apply even tension at all four corners, the fabric sags and the whole thing loses rigidity. Not ideal for a good night’s sleep.
After lots of trial and error, we tried something bold—raising the floor slightly at the head end. And surprisingly, it worked. Despite the floating floor, downsides were minimal. In fact, it made the shelter faster and easier to pitch, even on uneven ground.
We also had to balance competing priorities: ventilation or warmth, weight or durability, compact footprint or livable space. Through it all, the ZENN 2 POLE SHELTER emerged as something unique—not quite a tent, not a tarp, not a bivy, but something entirely our own.
